I think I have that disorder that I saw on T.V.  It’s the one where people can’t recognize faces. It’s real. It exists and I just know I have it. I looked it up on Wikipedia. It’s very rare. It’s called “Prosopagnosia”.  A mother even went to her daycare and picked up the wrong child because she didn’t recognize him. (Or maybe she just liked the other one better. I don’t know.)

Well, I’m positive I have it. At least the equine version. I named it “Equi-Prosopagnosia”. It’s even rare-er. If I’m going to have a disorder I like it to be the rare-est.

Here’s what happened. I left my sorrel horse,”Pardner”, in Oklahoma for two months to be trained as a Ranch Sorter.  I went down there last weekend to pick him up and bring him home.  I walked down the aisle of horse runs in the barn and had a moment of slight anxiety.  I thought …..
“Where is he? These horses all look alike. They’re all the same color”

I walked up and down the aisle two times pondering this.

That’s when it hit me.  I’m just like that woman on T.V!  The one I made so much fun of. I can’t even recognize my own horse! I have that… uh ……… DISORDER . That rare horse-face-recognition disorder!

I paced up and down the aisle again. ” Are you my horse? “

Does he have a wide strip or a narrow strip on his face?  Does he have socks or no socks.

I DON’T KNOW !  I CAN’T REMEMBER. I HAVE THAT RARE DISORDER!

THEY ALL LOOK THE SAME!

It would be so embarrassing to saddle up the wrong horse, much less take him home. If I ask Joel he will make fun of  me for the next century and I can’t have that. There are enough embarrassing things that happen in public without adding this.

Then he did it.  Pard looked up and nickered at me. As if to say … “Here I am, you poor, pathetic woman.”

“How about a ride home”

An old cowboy once said to me  “God must have loved the Sorrel Horse the most.”

I would agree.

P.S.  One time at the  Ranch Sorting I walked up to a sorrel horse that had a blanket just like Pard’s and almost got on him. And he was even a her!Good thing I recognized my own saddle.  I’m going to quit making fun of people on T.V. with rare disorders now that I know I have one too.

  1. I can totally understand when I saw that picture of all the horses lined up–looking all alike! A “God’ll get you for that” moment. No more laughing at people on TV for you, lady!
Good thing Pard recognized you from all the other humans. But, then again, you’ve got that red hair. 😉
Hope you’re having a super weekend, my friend. 🙂

  2. That is funny,,,,,,,,happens all the time hear when people come to pick up their dogs……….you can see the unsure look on their faces. I try to spare them the embarrasment and walk to their dogs pen. LOL!!!!!!!!!

    • Hahaha Laura. I bet so. When I go to your place I always wonder how you keep them straight. God likes a black and white dog too! Terah

I wouldn’t be able to figure out which horse was which either. Socks, definitely need socks on your horse. 😉
