This morning I was supposed to ride the north end of this pasture where we turned the cattle into yesterday.  Remember yesterday?  We started at the very end of the horizon of these big ugly power lines.

image

This is a pasture that we lease. Maybe we would feel different if we got the money that the power company paid to land owners when they constructed these a few years ago. But I doubt it.  I haven’t talked to one person that was happy to see it.  I’m glad they are not on our ranch. I don’t think they let you say no. Eminent domain and all.

Any way,  I digress.  We got a little late start which is really dumb on a day like today.  An hour can make a lot of difference in the heat.  It was about 8:00AM.  That extra cup of coffee in bed wasn’t worth it. I should have just staid there.

I have yet to see any cattle.  They are smarter than me.  They are already in the shade …. somewhere.

image

I wish I could be like Pioneer Woman and make you think we do everything in right order and everything always looks nicely manicured.  And cattle never get sick.  And there are never any weeds or junk laying around the pens. And every inch of fence is checked before you turn cattle in. I’m definitely not PW.

It was new fence a couple of years ago. We weren’t really too worried, but you never know.  Anyway it was a nice (hot) ride. The fence was good.  The dogs were past thirsty.

image

I say “Get a drink” from about a quarter-mile away they blast down there and wait for me.

There is something about watching a dog wallow in the water on a hot day that is very relaxing.  I don’t  join them today.  This pond is a little muddy and I’m too hot to get off my horse.

image

If I have to get off my horse I won’t be able to get back on because I’m sweating so much that my jeans are stuck to my legs.  I wouldn’t be able to lift my leg up to get back on without chaffing.  Or something like that.

All better now.  Let’s see if we can make it back to the truck.

If I can find it out here in this vast wilderness.

image

Oh yea.  It’s just like some of the big circles we used to make up in Ol’ Wyoming.

image

Instead of mountains and peaks to get your bearings.

image

We have giant power poles.

It could be worse.  We could have a wind farm.

Gee, I wonder where I parked the truck?

Love,  Cowgirl-Red   aka Terah

P.S.  We were only out there about an hour.  Seemed like three.  The fence was fine. Thank goodness. I never did see the cattle.  They are way smarter than me today!
