My cowdog, Puncher is a high energy Border Collie. That’s like a double shot of espresso on steroids. She needs lots of exercise just to calm down enough to practice working cattle.
So here is what we do every morning. I mean EVERY never missed a day unless I was out of town morning. At daylight in the summer to beat the heat.
First we run. I mean I ride the 4wheeler and she runs. I try not to ever run anywhere. I used to walk with her when she was a lttle puppy to teach her to stay with me and some commands.  Now she runs about 4 miles every morning, about 15- 20mph. I feel the wind in my hair.
Then we do a little cross training.  Swimming in the pond.
I don’t swim in the pond with her.
Mostly I sit on the bank and meditate and drink my coffee.?
By now she has had enough excercise to take the edge off and listen to me.
Then we go to the arena with the practice cattle.  I actually do participate
physically here.  Usually walking backwards while giving her the commands.
I fall down alot.
We practice her commands, directions, and control.
Alot of days we have real work with real cattle and those days
I still run her with the 4wheeler first.  Not that my practice cattle
aren’t real cattle, they are. Different scenario.
That is the everyday, everymorning life of Puncher and me.
That’ll do, good dog.

  1. That is so cool!! I wish I had 1/4 of Puncher's energy. It makes me smile just watching all that incredible joy emanating off of her.;o)

She is so gorgeous – I love people that know what to 'do' with a Border collie. unfortunately so many peeps around here have teeny (if any) space/yard and their dogs are simply insane. Judging from your work with PUncher — maybe I could send you some of these?! lol
